Question #49: Do we need more border patrol agents?
Yes, we need more border patrol agents. We have an immigration crisis at our southern border. Now more than ever we need more agents.
Border Patrols primary focus is on enforcement at the border, while ICE's main focus is on enforcing immigration laws in the interior of the country. Border patrol conducts inspections at the border, and it also runs the U.S. Border Patrol, which works to detect and prevent unauthorized entry into the country.
I will be discussing ICE in soon in another question.
The United States Border Patrol (USBP) is an American federal law enforcement agency whose mission is to detect and prevent illegal aliens, terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States, and prevent illegal trafficking of people and contraband.
Allowing an organization or an individual to do their job efficiently means making sure they have the manpower and tools they need to do the job. Supporting border patrol agents helps keep our country safe.
As of May 2011, the Department of Homeland Security stated that border patrol has 649 miles of barriers in place they need to patol. The total length of the continental border is 1,954 miles.
Approximately 350 million legal crossings taking place annually. There are 48 U.S.–Mexico border crossings, with 330 ports of entry.
Through Oct 2018 to June 2019 - 63,624 unaccompanied children, 390,308 family units, and 234,443 single adults totaling 688,375 illegal entries were apprehended at the border.
I do support having more border patrol agents. I also support making sure they have the tools they need to do their job: from the wall to advanced technology.
Once elected into office I will work directly with border patrol and other agencies to learn more about the border patrol needs. I want to bring a commonsense approach and compassionate approach to solving these complex issues.
I am running for office to be the change I want to see. Thank you for your support and VOTE. #VoteWisdom4Congress
