Newton man sentenced for pot
WICHITA — A Newton man convicted of growing 204 marijuana plants at his home was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Wednesday.
Judah Prince, 50, formerly of Newton, was sentenced on one charge of manufacturing marijuana and 26 counts of using a false address when he filled out federal paperwork to determine whether he was eligible to purchase firearms, Welch said.
Prosecutors said investigators with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a search warrant at Prince’s Newton home on Jan. 9, 2008. The search turned up marijuana plants growing inside the home, as well as 35 firearms, including rifles, shotguns and pistols.
