Man arrested after 42-pound pot stash found

EAST GREENBUSH — Police said they may have caught the town's largest supplier of marijuana after finding 42 pounds of pot in a 34-year-old man's home on Wednesday.

East Greenbush police said they didn't even find a TV when searching Michael Coleman's home at 31 Rugby Road, but found strange scribbles in notebooks and heard the man say he was working on a cure for cancer. Coleman was arrested after a lengthy investigation that culminated in the search, police said, where they also found $167,000 in cash, 2 pounds of hashish, 1 pound of hallucinogenic mushrooms and two shotguns. Police said they also seized Coleman's 2007 Honda Civic.

Coleman was charged with fourth- and second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and first-degree criminal nuisance. He was arraigned at East Greenbush Town Court and sent to Rensselaer County Jail without bail.
